NeonMob LIVES!!!
/Updated April 24, 2023
Hi there NeonMobsters,
First, the most exciting news: NeonMob is not shutting down!
We’ve come prepared to help you jump right back in: Five brand-new series are already waiting for you, and more will be released every day this week. Check back at noon pacific for the daily drop! And if you’ve been dying to click that Get Credits button so you can open more packs (like we have), now you can - credit and subscription purchases and back on, and we’re also running a limited-time promotion on the yearly Pro subscription.
Second: Hello from CO2ign! We’ve been in contact with NeonMob since the shutdown notice and we’re thrilled to finally be able to announce that the torch has officially been passed on to us.
There will be some changes coming, but we want NeonMob to stay the best place to collect and trade digital art - while also being a place for independent artists to thrive. That means keeping the fun, free collecting that long-time NeonMobsters enjoy, while also bringing new ways to show off and share your art.
We’re sure you have questions, and we want to hear them! We’ve got some info below the line to get you started.
Thanks so much for the warm welcome so far, NeonMob <3
What’s happening? What’s going to change?
In these first months, we’ll be focusing on getting NeonMob back to its optimal functionality, streamlining the technical side to make the servers faster, and getting to know the ins and outs of the platform.
We’ll also be doing a lot of talking and listening - we want to fully understand the potential impact of any changes we do end up needing to make, and that we preserve what’s most important to the NeonMob community. We’ll be reaching out early and often to get your feedback - you can join the official NeonMob discord to be part of those conversations.
Going forward, we’ll be making NeonMob an even better platform for artists and collectors by bringing CO2ign features to NeonMob - such as adding digital signatures to your favorite cards, and a gallery experience to allow you to better enjoy your collected sets.
How can I help?
Keep using NeonMob! The community’s engagement and passion are what’s kept it alive for this long and that will always be the case. We’ll be looking into ways to reward the people who have stuck it out as well as referral bonuses for new users, so stick around!
For those who can afford it, it would also be a huge help if you could pick up a Pro Subscription.
Until May 31, yearly subscriptions are 20% off (down to $80 for 12 months)(or $6.66/mo 😈).
Long time player? Pick up a yearly pro subscription and we’ll restore your streak to its highest value from any time you were on the platform! (just reach out to us support@neonmob.com)
We’ve kept all the same perks for the $10/mo monthly subscription, like exclusive packs, more freebies, and streak protection.
Lastly, you can join the discord or mailing list! We really do want and need to hear from NeonMob’s users, past or present. You can also email any suggestions you have to feedback@neonmob.com.
What is CO2ign Art?
CO2ign Art is an online marketplace that provides a low-stress way for artists to sell their digital artwork, as well as a digital gallery where art lovers can show off their commissioned artwork - all while helping the planet, as 30% of every sale is used to fund carbon reduction projects. We also use our (patent-pending) technology to ‘digitally sign’ every image with its creator and buyer, making every purchased file unique - without NFTs, cryptocurrency, or the blockchain.
Who is CO2ign?
CO2ign is a small team of six operating primarily out of Seattle, though we’re spread all over the US. While the company has only existed since 2021, as people we’ve been in and around the online art community for decades (some of us artists, some of us aspiring, all of us nerds) and are invested in creating communities that value the people who make art.
We’re new to NeonMob, but we quickly fell in love with it and are excited to be able to work on it and carry it forward!
Are you making any changes to how the site functions - sets, odds, creator payouts, allowed topics, etc?
This is all in the category of, “it depends”. Like we said above, we want to hear what works and what doesn’t about the current setup from you before we make any plans to change how NeonMob functions. We’re also looking for new ways for artists to make additional money via NeonMob, whether that’s by CO2igning individual prints or implementing more paid features that would allow us to raise payout percentages.
Will you convert NeonMob to an NFT marketplace?
Nope! CO2ign is a 100% NFT-free platform and will keep NeonMob the same.
What is your policy on AI-generated images?
Our official AI policy is currently pending, especially as the landscape is still changing rapidly, and is another thing we want the community’s input on. For the moment, no new AI-generated series will be released.
We are aware of the issues with current AI image generators and are keeping up with new developments as they come, and want to build a thoughtful policy. We would at minimum require some amount of input/transformation performed by a human artist - nothing straight from a generator into a deck.
That said, generative art has been used creatively and ethically by artists for a long time before the advent of Midjourney and its like - some right here on NeonMob already - and we don’t want to thoughtlessly shut those artists out either.
Send any thoughts you have on AI policy (or anything else!) to feedback@neonmob.com.
